We can divide the portuguese territory in two large areas; the continental and the insular. While the two islands of Madeira and Azores have great weather all year round, the continental area has many differences in temperatures depending on the regions and wheter they are found inland or on the coast of Portugal.
The climate in Portugal can vary very much from region to region, influenced by it´s geography. The latitude and distance to the sea which offers mild winters and regulated the temperature.
In the area of Oporto and the north of Portugal, especially inland, the winters are cold and the summers a hot and dry. Along the coast the heat is moderate due to the seabreeze.
Also influenced by latitude and the current of the gulf, the temperatures in the Azores are nice all year round. In the archipelago of Madeira, the climate is subtropical, due to its geographic position and the mountains present on the islands.
